Russian firm chosen to complete Bulgarian plant

Atomstroyexport has been chosen to supply two reactors at Bulgaria's Belene site. Supplying about 1000MWe each, they are scheduled to deliver power in 2011 and 2013 and will fill a gap in energy supply left by the early closure of older reactors.

IAEA chief addresses United Nations

Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, used his annual address to the United Nations to call for a legally binding ban on nuclear weapons tests and a multilateral approach to the nuclear fuel cycle.

 

USEC wins $200 million PPL Susquehanna contract

USEC has signed a long-term contract with PPL Susquehanna to supply uranium enrichment services for the company's Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The contract is valued at more than $200 million.

President of European Commission calls for nuclear energy to be considered

The President of the European Commission (EC), Jose Manuel Barroso has suggested that the European Union (EU) should consider an increase in nuclear's share of its electricity production as part of an energy policy that will cut carbon emissions and tackle climate change.
